Bajitpur upazila of Kishoreganj district covers an area of 193.6 sq km, with Katiadi, Nikli and Ashtagram upazilas on the north, Kuliyarchar and Sarail upazilas on the south; It is bounded on the east by Ashtagram and Nasirnagar upazilas and on the west by Katiadi upazila. There are two legends about the origin of the name Bajitpur. The first is that during the Mughal period, a royal official named Biojid Khan came from Delhi along with his three brothers Bhagal Khan, Pailan Khan and Delwar Khan and stayed here. After a few days they settled in 4 places in the vicinity of Bajitpur and after the name of the residence of Biojid Khan, it became Bajitpur. In this Ramnape, Pailanpur became known as Pailan Khan and Bhagalpur as Bhagal Khan also became known as Dilalpur under Delwar Khan. Isha Khan then took up position in the river Ghagra area of Haor, then Bayazid Khan took up position at present Bajitpur, two miles west of Ghorautra river. However, it does not seem to be credible or justifiable as there is no detailed history of whether he ever fought a battle with Isaachan or what the outcome of the war was. Moreover, there is no evidence of his permanent residence here. The temporary residence may first be called Bayezidpur and then Bajitpur. However, the first public labor seems to be more acceptable.
